2. Rule chapter with main changes
Pt.0 Ch.1 User Information, Current Rule Chapters and Index
Main changes coming into force 1 January 2011
As of October 2010 all DNV service documents are primarily published electronically. For DNV Rules for Classification of Ships and High Speed, Light Craft and Naval Surface Craft, this was implemented already in July 2010 and they were then also made available for free as pdf files through http://www.dnv.com. At the same time, the electronic pdf versions of the documents found through the same site are the officially binding versions.
Given the free access to the Rules, the request for printed versions of the Rules is now insignificant. Accordingly, as from January 2011, the current print service will be discontinued.
The “Amendments and corrections” section in this document, which intention was to supply buyers of printed documents with a detailed view of “amendments” to the documents applicable after issued in print, is therefore considered superfluous. In order to ensure a practical transition in removing the “Amendments and corrections” document, all documents that have incorporated amendments and corrections more recent than the date of the latest printed issue, have been given the date January 2011.
Updates and amendments to rules will still be explained in more detail on page 2 of each document and a summary of all these changes will be published separately on the same internet site as the rules.
All information in this chapter regarding printing has been amended and deleted as relevant, ref. the above.
In Sec.1 C and D (previous Sec.2 C and D), information regarding other issues than the Rules, that are meant for information only, has been deleted or amended to simplify updating of these parts.

- A new documentation type Z201 – Position keeping capability plot, has been added.
Part 2 Chapter 1 General Requirements for Materials
Main changes coming into force 1 July 2011
Sec.1 Manufacture, Survey and Certification
This section has been amended with regard to correction of defects and identification of materials. Electronic certificates have been included.
Sec.2 Testing Procedures
This section has been amended with regard to testing of materials. Fracture Mechanics testing has been included.
Part 4 Chapter 7 Pressure Vessels
Main changes coming into force 1 January 2011

Part 4 Chapter 8 Electrical Installations
General
The present edition of the rules includes amendments and additions approved by the Executive Committee as of November 2010 and supersedes the January 2010 edition of the same chapter.
The rule changes come into force as described below.
This chapter is valid until superseded by a revised chapter.
Main changes coming into force 1 July 2011
General
Tables for documentation requirements have been updated and aligned the matrix approach in Pt.0 Ch.3.
Sec.1 Service Description
- Table B1 and Sec.2 C104: The requirements to vessels with two or more independent machinery spaces and no emergency generator are updated. Requirements for FMEA and test program for such systems have been introduced.
- Table B3: Semiconductor converters may be certified in a “two stage” process: This implies that the switchboard part is certified at the assembly manufacturer's site, while the power modules may be certified at the original manufacturer's site.
Sec.2 System Design
- For clarification of design ideas for electric systems and to improve readability, some reorganization and improved grouping of related requirements have been made.
- A207 and Sec.3 C103: The limits for voltage harmonic distortion are increased.
- Sub-section element F100 is re-written and in F200, requirements to lighting systems are modified.
- F300 and H101: Power supplies to control systems are re-written.
- G104: Continuity of supply and continuity of service has been introduced.
- G700: Requirements for harmonic filter protection are added.
- I301: Reference to Pt.4 Ch.1 has been updated.
Sec.3 Equipment in General
D301: Twist-on or clamp-on connections are accepted for lights and small power applications in dry accommodation.
Sec.4 Switchgear and Control gear Assemblies
A105: Requirements for switchgear for isolating purposes are modified.
Sec.6 Power Transformers
A201: Requirements related to forced cooling of transformers are modified.
Sec.7 Semi-conductor Converters
This Section is totally re-written. The update reflects current IEC standards, and does generally not impose specific class requirements to semiconductor converters.
Sec.9 Cables
Requirements for cables rated 1.8/3 kV are moved to high voltage cables. References to IEC have been updated.
Sec.10 Installation
Table B1 is modified and new items D409 and D410 have been added.
Sec.13 Definitions
A203: Reference to Pt.4 Ch.1 has been updated.
