Pt.1 Ch.1 General Regulations

Significant editorial changes adopted January 2009 and taking effect immediately

The list in Sec.2 B601 has been expanded to include the class notations GAS FUELLED, FC-POWER and FC-SAFETY as a consequence of Pt.6 Ch.13 and Pt.6 Ch.23 being included as common booklets.

Pt.4 Ch.3 Rotating Machinery, Drivers

Main changes coming into force 1 July 2009

· Sec.1 Diesel Engines

Monitoring of turbocharger lubrication oil outlet temperature has been brought in line with revised IACS UR M35 and the reported practices of other IACS members.

Inconsistency and redundancies in the rule text concerning the design of turbochargers have been removed.

Alignment with/incorporating IACS UR M66 for "testing of crankcase safety valves" has been introduced.

Other editorial improvements and corrections of printing errors have been made.

Pt.4 Ch.4 Rotating Machinery, Power Transmission

Significant editorial changes adopted January 2009 and taking effect immediately

· Sec.2 Gear Transmissions

List item a), sub-item 1) in C206 has been extensively amended in order to introduce an alternative for gear manufacturers who still want to apply small standard test coupons without performing any correlation testing.

Pt.4 Ch.7 Pressure Vessels

Main changes coming into force 1 July 2009

· General

The previous title of this booklet “Boilers, Pressure Vessels, Thermal-Oil Installations and Incinerators” has been replaced by “Pressure Vessels”.

· Sec.1 General Requirements

Sub-section B: The definition of a boiler has been adjusted also to include the alternative electric heating.

Table B1: The references to austenitic stainless steels have been removed, and "Plate heat exchangers" under "Other pressure vessels"/ Class III has been included.

Sub-section element C400 “Incinerators” has been deleted.

Previous sub-section D has been replaced by new sub-section D and sub-section E, which are a completely update.

· Sec.2 Materials

Sub-section elements A100 and A200 have been updated with regard to plate heat exchangers.

Items A206 and 207 have been corrected to align with Pt.2 Ch.2.

Sub-section element A300 “Valves and fittings” has been removed, being covered by Ch.6.

· Sec.3 Arrangement

Sub-section C “Incinerators” has been deleted.

· Sec.4 General Design Requirements

In item D305, the factor 0.75 has been changed to 0.6.

In item F101, a reference to Table F1 has been added regarding the minimum wall thickness requirements. Item F104 has been deleted.

· Sec.5 Particular Design Requirements for Boilers

In item D205 and item D603, the factor 0.75 has been changed to 0.6.

· Sec.6 Mounting and Fittings

In item B101, the requirement for number of safety valves has been changed to 2, independent of heating surface.

In item B113, the accumulation test requirements have been revised.

· Sec.7 Instrumentation and Automation

Sub-section F and Table F1 “Monitoring of oil fired incinerators” have been removed.

· Sec.8 Manufacture, Workmanship and Testing

Item D603 has been deleted.

Pt.4 Ch.13 Control and Monitoring of Propulsion, Directional Control, Stabilisation and Auxiliary Systems

Main changes coming into force 1 July 2009

The requirements for class notationE0(periodically unmanned machinery spaces) are no longer found in both this booklet and in Pt.6 Ch.3 “Periodically Unattended Machinery Spaces”. I.e. some of the requirements have now been located only under main class (this booklet), while the remaining are found in Pt.6 Ch.3.

Adjustments in order to align with Pt.4 Ch.9 “Control and Monitoring Systems” have been made.

Pt.5 Ch.1Passenger Craft

Main changes coming into force 1 July 2009

· Sec.1 General Requirements

A new item B103 has been inserted covering requirements for Failure Mode and Effect Analysis (FMEA) as a consequence of the HSC Code. The subsequent item has been renumbered.

· Sec.7 Control and Monitoring

This new section has been introduced to cover requirements for instrumentation and automation additional to those given in Pt.4 Ch.9 “Control and Monitoring System” and Pt.4 Ch.14 “Steering Gear”.

Pt.5 Ch.2 Car Ferry

Main changes coming into force 1 July 2009

· Sec.1 General Requirements

A new item E102 has been inserted covering requirements for Failure Mode and Effect Analysis (FMEA) as a consequence of the HSC Code. The subsequent item has been renumbered.

The renumbered item E104 has been amended to cover documentation of control and monitoring systems of bow doors and television surveillance. Table D1 has been deleted.

· Sec.5 Control and Monitoring

This new section has been introduced to cover requirements for instrumentation and automation additional to those given in Pt.4 Ch.9 “Control and Monitoring System” and Pt.4 Ch.14 “Steering Gear”.

Pt.5 Ch.3 Cargo

Main changes coming into force 1 July 2009

· Sec.1 General Requirements

· Sec.12 Safe Evacuation of Personnel

Item J203 has been amended so that the reference to IMO res. A.656(16) has been replaced by the LSA Code as amended.

Pt.6 Ch.1 Miscellaneous Notations

Main changes coming into force 1 July 2009

· General

The notation (CAA-N) has been included (evaluation of helicopter deck for compliance with the Norwegian Civil Aviation Authorities helicopter operation regulations BSL D 5-1 governing Norwegian Continental Shelf operation).

Requirements taking into account "green sea" on pillars, supporting helicopter decks located in the fore ship, have been added under Sec.2 B500.

Safety requirements based on “CAP 437 - offshore helicopter landing areas - guidance on standards, January 2005 edition” (UK Civil Aviation Authorities Publications), and fire safety requirements for helicopter deck installations as required by -SOLAS, have been incorporated.

Any references to naval standards have been removed.

Pt.6 Ch.3 Periodically Unattended Machinery Space

Main changes coming into force 1 July 2009

· Sec.1 General Requirements

Sub-section B ”Operation and Maintenance Manuals” has been deleted and the following new sub-sections have been introduced: B “Documentation” and C “Maintenance Manual”.

· Sec.2 System Arrangement

This section has been totally revised and harmonised with Pt.4 Ch.9 and Pt.4 Ch.13.

· Sec.3 Special Requirements

This section has been totally revised and harmonised with Pt.4 Ch.8 and Pt.4 Ch.13.

Pt.6 Ch.18 Combat Survivability

Editorial changes taking effect 1 January 2009

· General

The chapter number of his booklet has been altered from Ch.13 to Ch.18. Otherwise, the booklet is unchanged. The reason is that a new booklet Pt.6 Ch.13 “Gas Fuelled Engine Installations” has been introduced. This booklet is part of the Rules for Classification of Ships and becomes a new common booklet.

Pt.7 Ch.1 Survey Requirements

Main changes coming into force 1 July 2009

· General

Pt.7 has been restructured to align with the rules for ships as follows:

Ch.1 “Survey Requirements” (this booklet) has been completely revised and relevant requirements of previous Ch.1 and Ch.2 have been included.

Ch.2 “Retroactive Requirements” now includes the requirements of previous Ch.1 Sec.3.

Ch.3 “Management of Safety and Environmental Protection (SEP)”, no change.

· Main changes

Scope for main class has been revised.

Mandatory class notations have been included as part of main class.

More emphasize has been put on the ship's systems and functions as part of the main class machinery and systems.

Statutory ("Code") requirements pertaining to lifesaving appliances/arrangements, navigation and fire detection have been removed.

Same schedule for Bottom Survey as for ships has been introduced, however, all bottom surveys of HSLC shall be in dock.

Separate survey for Water Jet has been introduced.

Requirements pertaining to naval craft have been made mandatory, i.e. included in main class.

Optional class notations (not covered by main class) have been referred to Pt.7 Ch.1 in the ship rules. I.e. for optional class notations a general reference to Pt.7 Ch.1 in the ship rules has been made. The notations included in Sec.6 is intended for HSLC only

The requirements for electrical installations have been updated/harmonized, e.g. the requirements for electrical installations in gas dangerous areas are now the same for all ship types.

Pt.7 Ch.2 Retroactive Requirements

Main changes coming into force 1 July 2009

· General

Pt.7 has been restructured to align with the rules for ships as follows:

Ch.1 “Survey Requirements” has been completely revised and relevant requirements of previous Ch.1 and Ch.2 have been included.

Ch.2 “Retroactive Requirements” (this booklet) now includes the requirements of previous Ch.1 Sec.3.

Ch.3 “Management of Safety and Environmental Protection (SEP)”, no change.
