Pt.4 Ch.2 Rotating Machinery, General
Significant changes coming into force 1 January 2008
In order to clarify the NDT requirements, the following changes have been adopted:
Improved documented procedures and requirements in the form of an approved NDT specification.
NDT requirements in the machinery rules are presented in a more unified manner, and a default level of requirements (referring to ISO standards and/or IACS Guidelines) is given.
NDT requirements in the machinery rules are harmonised with other NDT requirements in Pt.2 and Classification Notes 7.
Pt.4 Ch.3 Rotating Machinery, Drivers
Significant changes coming into force 1 January 2008
Reference is made to the comments concerning NDT shown under Pt.4 Ch.2 above.
Under Sec.1, a new item B302 has been inserted to the effect that crankcase explosion relief valves shall be type tested.
Pt.4 Ch.4 Rotating Machinery, Power Transmission
Significant changes coming into force 1 January 2008
Reference is made to the comments concerning NDT shown under Pt.4 Ch.2 above.
Under Sec.1, item B502 has been amended so that the criteria referred to also apply to propeller connections.
Pt.4 Ch.5 Rotating Machinery, Driven Units
Significant changes coming into force 1 January 2008
Reference is made to the comments concerning NDT shown under Pt.4 Ch.2 above.
Pt.4 Ch.8 Electrical Installations
Main changes coming into force 1 July 2008
Sec.2 System Design
In item D102 b) "an independent" has been changed to "its own dedicated".
In item D102 c) recharging time/capacity has been changed to "80% capacity within 10 hours" to be in line with IEC 60092-305 Amendm. 1.
In item D102 d) the text has been clarified.
In item D103 the SOLAS reference has been deleted. "Ventilation fails" has been deleted and replaced by reference, as the requirement for ventilation is covered by I400.
Pt.4 Ch.9 Control and Monitoring Systems
Main changes coming into force 1 July 2008
General
The requirements for interdependency between alarm, control and safety functions have been clarified.
Requirements for user interface were made applicable only when referred to by the ICS notation. As the ICS notation is withdrawn, the user interface requirements in Sec.6 have been reduced to a level that is presumed to be feasible to verify, and the requirements are made mandatory. Further, the separate paragraphs related to user interface in Sec.4 have been moved to Sec.6 and aligned with the revised user interface requirements.
The requirements for control system networks and network components have been strengthened, and a separate set of rules for wireless communication has been added.
A list of all systems that are subject to certification has been added as a Guidance note in the relevant paragraph.
The documentation requirement for FMEA has been changed from “Information” to “Approval”.
The general requirement related to emergency/back-up functions has been strengthened.
Pt.6 Ch.5 Integrated Computer Systems (ICS)
The rule chapter has been removed as of January 2008
