In June, DNV opened a new strategic unit in Beijing to meet the needs of Chinese government organisations and state-owned enterprises to the growing need of tackling sustainable development projects.

DNV has assisted many governments, state-owned enterprises and private companies in setting up sustainability standards and practices – in China and globally. DNV’s new Sustainability Centre has been established in Beijing to ramp up our service capabilities here.
“China is working hard to balance economic, social and environmental development. The scale and impact of projects initiated by the Chinese government and large state-owned enterprises are massive. And so are the inherent risks. We want to be strongly present with relevant services here in Beijing, where these customers are headquartered. And we are getting the right response from the market,” says Per Marius Berrefjord, who is heading up the Sustainability Centre.
As an immediate example, DNV recently started a project with the State-owned Assets Supervision and Administration Commission of the State Council (SASAC). The idea is to use a scientific approach to ensure that major investments are properly vetted through a formal risk assessment before proceeding. The SASAC-DNV project is the third joint effort related to Enterprise Risk Management and will have more than 30 state-owned enterprises (SOEs) participating.
