DNV has completed a study on technological innovations for safer and more environmentally sound oil exploration in the resource rich, but vulnerable, northern parts of Norway. In addition potential technological challenges are identified.

“In taking oil and gas exploration into the Arctic area, the industry is in need of consistent guidance and support to achieve sustainable field developments,” says DNV’s Kim Mørk, director of Arctic Technology and Operations within DNV Energy.
The report was carried out on behalf of the Norwegian Society of Chartered Technical and Scientific Professionals. The report discusses technologies related to drilling and well operations, oil and gas production, emissions to the air, seismology and mapping in the pre-drilling phase, petroleum related shipping, and spill reduction due to mishaps.
