The world’s largest newbuilding car carrier measured in car capacity is at present being built in Croatia to DNV class. The vessel will have a capacity of 7,000 vehicles and will be completed in January.

The world’s largest newbuilding car carrier is being built for P.D. Gram and Leif Hoegh & Co.

The giant car carrier is being built for P.D. Gram and Leif Hoegh & Co and will be operated by Hoegh Autoliners. It is 199.90 metres long and 32.26 metres wide. The vessel was recently launched from the slipway, while its sister vessel was keel-laid on the same occasion.

This world record is being achieved through cooperation between the Uljanik Shipyard in Pula, Croatia, the shipowner and DNV. Both vessels will be an estimated 55,300 gross tonnes.

DNV has a strong position in the car carrier market, and almost 25% of this fleet is classed to DNV.
