DNV will assist BP’s Operation Canadian Crude project, a major revamp of BP’s Whiting refinery to accommodate the processing of extra heavy oil from Canada.

The Operation Canadian Crude project includes the installation of a new world scale coker facility, a new gasoil hydrotreater and significant expansion of the sulfur processing capacity at the refinery. DNV has, since the beginning of 2006, provided performance forecasting services to the project.
“However, the contract for DNV has now been extended and will cover both further performance forecasting and safety, health and environmental services. The new performance forecasting contract covers the update and revision of previously constructed refinery performance models as the design evolves through the define stage of the project. The work will also include facilitation and reporting of hazard identification sessions together with subsequent consequence modelling for each of the major hazards identified,” explains Alastair Painter, DNV’s project manager.
