“DNV has developed a new service offering to act as an independt trust anchor for e-business,” says Head of Global Industries & Services in DNV, Jahn Henry Løvaas. “DNV’s Validation Authority (VA) service allows international organisations to make effective use of eID’s and electronic signatures with secure authentication.”

By making use of DNV's VA service, receivers of digitally signed documents will be able to securely conduct business with any party, whether or not business relations already exist between them, and independent of that party's choice of Certificate Authority. DNV’s VA service will enable effective use of digital signatures by handling complexity, reducing cost and providing true interoperability between different eID certificates.

“The DNV VA services will provide customers with one-stop-shopping for validation of eID certificates and verification of electronic signatures," states Jahn Henry Løvaas.

The Norwegian Agency for Public Management and eGovernment (DIFI) is DNV’s first customer to use the VA service. They will use the VA solution to validate foreign eID’s used to sign tenders and contracts by foreign suppliers to the public sector on the public procurement portal Ehandel.no.

“We have chosen this approach to ensure easy and secure public procurement through the use of electronic signatures from suppliers in the entire European economic area,” says General Manager of DIFI, Hans Christian Holte.

About DIFI and Ehandel.no
The Agency for Public Management and eGovernment (DIFI) was established 1 January 2008 and aims to strengthen the government’s work in renewing the Norwegian public sector and improve the organisation and efficiency of government administration. The Norwegian electronic public procurement portal Ehandel.no was established in 2002 in order to attain a critical user mass of electronic public procurement. The purpose of Ehandel.no is to give public sector entities and their suppliers’ easy access to a user friendly and affordable tool for operational e-procurement with each other. Use of Ehandel.no services is open for central, regional and local authorities and their suppliers.
