Nantong, China: DNV and Jiangsu Rongsheng Heavy Industries Co., Ltd (RSHI) today signed a Strategic Cooperation Agreement governing further cooperation in the fields of shipbuilding and offshore engineering. The agreement was signed in connection with the delivery of the first vessel from the new shipyard.

The signing of this Strategic Cooperation Agreement demonstrates that the cooperation between DNV and RSHI has entered a new phase. Under this new agreement, the two parties will continue to strengthen their established cooperation regarding technology, quality and innovation and will further boost the fast development of the Chinese shipbuilding and offshore industries. The agreement is valid for five years.
The agreement was signed by Bjorn K. Haugland, DNV Vice President and Area Chair for Greater China, and Chen Qiang, Chairman and President of RSHI. The Mayor of Nantong City, Ding Dawei, Norwegian Consul General Fred Nomme and DNV Chief Operating Officer Tor Svensen were present at the agreement signing ceremony.
Mr Haugland said at the ceremony: “We are pleased to reach such a strategic cooperation agreement with Jiangsu Rongsheng Heavy Industries. RSHI has demonstrated its dedication to quality, technology and competence development during the short period of construction since it started up in October 2005. As a world leading class society with the purpose of safeguarding life, property and the environment, DNV is committed to the industry’s development of technology improvements, innovative solutions and quality assurance. DNV and RSHI share the same values regarding quality, technology and innovation and I believe this strategic cooperation will further support the rapid development of the Chinese shipbuilding and offshore industries.”
Mr Chen pointed out at the ceremony: “DNV is the world’s most famous classification society and certification body, and has an advanced management concept and a professional technical service team. DNV is a good partner for Jiangsu Rongsheng. By signing this Strategic Cooperation Agreement, both sides will further cooperate in an all-around way on everything from designing and testing ship and offshore engineering projects to research relating to rules and standards, personnel training, information consulting and market developments. I believe that through our straightforward and mutual-trust spirit of cooperation, we are sure to take our cooperation to new heights.”
DNV and RSHI have established a trustworthy relationship through an extensive collaboration high-level visits, competence and technology exchange, staff training and various value-based dialogues at different levels. RSHI’s first vessel contract was signed in 2006 and was to DNV class. Today, DNV has 61 vessels of more than 9 million dwt on order at RSHI.
