Oslo: BBS and DNV have joined forces to provide the market with a complete set of trust services for electronic business transactions. By joining forces, both parties wish to strengthen their services for establishing trust and confidence in e-business. The partnership will focus on the effective use of electronic identities for secure authentication and electronic signatures globally.
“A key challenge in accelerating international e-business has been the inability of the industry actors to extend trust beyond national (or local) communities,” says Director of Trust Services in BBS, Sven Falcke. “While the use of electronic identity (eID) certificates can help to address this challenge by creating trust, the lack of interoperability across different trust communities remains a formidable barrier.”
DNV has developed a new service offering to act as an independent trust anchor for e-business. DNV’s Validation Authority service will allow its customers to handle eIDs from in principle any certificate issuer, thereby facilitating access to much wider markets of authenticated end users. At the same time the service creates value for certificate issuers by increasing their certificates’ utility in the market and providing additional revenue sources.
“DNV’s Validation Authority takes a radically new approach,” says Jahn Henry Løvaas, Business Development Director in DNV. “It provides customers with ‘one-stop-shopping’ for validation of eID certificates and verification of electronic signatures: One point of trust, one agreement, one point of billing, one technical integration and one point of communication.”
With one of the leading information security environments in Europe, BBS will ensure cost effective availability of high quality Validation Authority services. BBS’ existing multi-ID identification and signing solutions will further reinforce the value propositions for the customers.

The Norwegian public procurement portal Ehandel.no will use the DNV Validation Authority services. “We have chosen this approach to ensure easy and secure public procurement through the use of electronic signatures from suppliers in the entire EU area,” says André Hoddevik, leader of the Norwegian Ministry of Government Administration and Reform eProcurement Secretariat.
