Revised+Standard+for+Certification+of+Offshore+Containers+

Houston, Texas: Due to the need for a specific standard that would cover the design and construction of containers for offshore use, during the 1980s DNV introduced Certification Note 2.7-1. Having for many years been accepted as the Industry Standard for Certification of Offshore Containers, this standard has been significantly updated in 2006.

This new version contains many improvements based on experiences gained over the years as well as expansion of its flexibility and coverage. Some significant improvements in the revised standard include the inclusion of certification of stress skinned units as well as allowing certification for specific environmental and geographical areas e.g. ’benign environments’ or ‘temperate climates’.

These changes recognize and allow for the fact that the there are different design concepts in containers and that the use of many such units is limited to certain areas and environments.

DNV believes that the changes made to 2.7-1 will further cement it as the industry accepted standard for certification of offshore containers.
