Houston, Texas: Experience has shown that there is a wide range of Portable Offshore Units which fall outside the existing standards due to weight, shape, size or configuration. A new standard covering these units is now available to the industry.
DNV firmly believes that this new standard will fill the void and help ensure that portable equipment being transported and handled offshore is properly designed and tested to withstand the rigours of offshore life.
This lack of a specific standard covering such non-container shaped portable offshore units has led to the ‘stretching’ of existing “Standard for Certification of Offshore Units 2.7-1” to meet this need. As a result, DNV customers have voiced a strong desire to have an additional standard for certifying such “non-container shaped” offshore units.
Accordingly, the DNV Standard for Certification No. 2.7-3 “Portable Offshore Units” has been developed and is now available to the industry. This standard covers all types of offshore units that fall outside the boundaries of 2.7-1.
