DNV has developed DNV Navigator, a computer-based tool that relieves the bridge team’s workload, safeguards ship operations and reduces cost and risk. The information it contains is updated weekly via emails to the ships. DNV Navigator is made by shipmasters for shipmasters.

DNV Navigator contains information about requirements relating to navigation, security, waste and ballast-water reporting and how to report to port authorities. The information is broken down into specific topics for each port, and is an important tool for the crew when entering new waters.

DNV Navigator includes unique checklists specific for each port and the different report forms required by port state authorities in 143 countries. It also contains a separate security module that meets the recording and reporting requirements of the ISPS Code.

DNV Navigator is an important tool for solving the problem of the mountain of information that, together with the safety, security and environmental requirements, now has to be taken care of by the crew when sailing. It meets the requirement of today and is also prepared for coming requirements to electronic port clearance.

“DNV Navigator meets both today’s and future requirements as to electronic port clearance," says Peik Jenssen, marketing director. He and Ove Strømsholm, the main contributor of the new product, represented DNV at the award ceremony.

More than 380 members of the international maritime community celebrated the outstanding achievements of 2004. DNV was one of only four award winners.

The SeaTrade Awards programme was introduced 17 years ago to highlight and recognize the industry’s efforts to improve maritime standards, and to award those at the forefront of new thinking/innovation.
