DNV has sold two companies in the USA, Avitas Inc. in Virginia and Avitas Engineering Inc. in Miami. DNV’s future aviation focus will be on risk assessments, safety and the environment.

Avitas Inc. primarily provides financial services to the aviation industry, while Avitas Engineering Inc. provides advisory services relating to the implementation of new equipment in aircraft. These companies have a total of 30 employees.
"In our future commitment to the aviation industry, we will place greater emphasis on safety-related services - aimed at both the civil aviation authorities and the aviation industry itself," stated Director Aage Enghaug, DNV Consulting.
DNV carries out work for the civil aviation authorities in Norway, Denmark, the Netherlands and the UK.
"We have carried out risk assessments and environmental analyses for Eurocontrol in Brussels and Frankfurt Airport," says Enghaug. "Air-traffic control is being privatised and new control routines are being developed for this form of ownership. With DNV's risk expertise, we are well positioned to take part in this work and establish better and more efficient control. This applies to both safety and business."
DNV bought Avitas in 1985 together with the Aircontact Group and Avmark Inc in Washington D.C. At the time of their sale, the companies were fully owned by DNV. Avitas Engineering Inc. was taken over by the company's general manager, while Avitas Inc. was bought by a group of the employees.
