Established in 1943 as the National Association of Corrosion Engineers, NACE International is recognized around the world as the premier authority for corrosion control solutions. Moghissi has been a member of NACE since 1990, and has been active in NACE administration for more than 15 years with a special focus on oil and gas upstream and midstream.

According to Moghissi, corrosion represents a growing risk to the energy and offshore industries. “I look forward to working more closely with NACE to broaden the industry’s focus on corrosion issues,” he says. “In my view, it’s not only a technical issue – it is about long-term risk management, maintenance and prevention.”

Moghissi notes that most of his work at DNV’s Materials & Corrosion Technology Center, perhaps the industry’s leading laboratory for corrosion research and analysis, occurs after an incident. “From enterprise risk perspective, corrosion-related incidents to pipelines or infrastructure represent a genuine, long-term threat,” he says. “Technical analysis will always play a role in managing this risk for the offshore, energy and construction industries, but corrosion issues should normally be a part of an organization’s risk management program.”

Moghissi’s new role at NACE follows a long association with the organization. Previously, Moghissi served on the NACE Board of Directors as Professional Activities Committee Director and on the Audit and Strategic Planning Committees. He has presented at numerous conferences, seminars, and local meetings as well as publishing over 50 presentations and patents. He received his BA in chemistry, a MS degree from the University of Virginia, and a doctorate in chemical engineering from the University of Florida. Moghissi was awarded the NACE Presidential Award in 2003.
