At the recent Lloyd’s List Middle East and Indian Sub-continent Awards, DNV was crowned ‘The Best Classification Society’, fending off competition from Lloyd’s Register. The event took place at the Taj Mahal Palace in Mumbai and DNV’s victory is the second time they have won a major ‘Best in Class’ award this year. DNV also picked up the prestigious Seatrade award last month.

“The Lloyd’s List award reflects the standing DNV has in the region,” says Eivind Grøstad, DNV Maritime’s regional manager for the Middle East and India. “Indeed, to win both these awards takes overall high standards of performance – it’s about operating safely, efficiently and attending to customer needs.”

Criteria for the Lloyd’s List award included number and breadth of ships classed, value added services and customer satisfaction. The award is considered by many as an opportunity to recognise the leaders of the maritime industry, whose innovation and dedication to quality is helping to transform the industry.

DNV currently enjoys the lions share of the market in terms of tonnage volume with 39 per cent of the ships in operation business. Also, DNV can boast an impressive 50 per cent market share when it comes to newbuildings on order or under construction in the region. At the time of writing, DNV has 125 vessels on order or under construction. Recent orders from local owners include the VLCCs for Vela International, chemical carriers for United Arab Chemical Company and bulk carriers for Shipping Cooperation of India. ADNATCO has also ordered several aframax tankers.

“We would like to thank all our loyal customers in the region who have supported DNV in winning this award,” says Kamal Kumar, DNV Maritime’s country manager for India, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh. “This recognition gives our customers the added confidence in working with us and further strengthens our leading position in the industry.”
