DNV+establishes+scholarship+at+Shanghai+Jiao+Tong+University+

Det Norske Veritas (DNV) and Shanghai Jiao Tong University (SJTU) have entered into an agreement that DNV will provide scholarship to SJTU for a five years period.

The agreement was signed on March 28th by Bjorn K. Haugland, DNV Vice President and Regional Manager for Greater China and Chen Gang, Vice President of SJTU.

The Norwegian Trade Minister, Mr. Dag Terje Andersen was present at the signing ceremony which was held at SJTU. “This initiative is a good way of supporting the build-up of the maritime technical competence, and at the same time enhanced the Sino-Norwegian relations.” Comments Mr. Andersen.

In addition, the Minister of Trade opened a China-Norwegian workshop on utilization of natural gas. Mr. Andersen was also present at the Maritime Lunch Seminar co-organized by the Norwegian Consul General and DNV.

The DNV scholarship at SJTU will provide financial support to excellent undergraduate and postgraduate students majoring in naval architecture and marine engineering. DNV also funds a scholarship at Herbin Engineering University.

“We’re very pleased to welcome the leading classification society DNV to establish scholarship at SJTU. This cooperation will help train excellent professionals for the shipbuilding industry, and raise the shipbuilding standards of China.” Says Mr. Chen.

DNV has international cooperation agreements with leading universities such as MIT, Stanford, ITT and NTNU (Norwegian University of Science and Technology) etc.

DNV supports the industry in China by providing training courses to improve the technological competence for the industry practitioners. DNV has so far established four maritime academies respectively in Dalian, Shanghai, Guangzhou and HongKong.
