In Singapore, CEO Miklos Konkoly-Thege hosted a customer dinner to celebrate the silver jubilee, with Mr. Andreas Sohmen-Pao, managing director of BW (Bergesen Worldwide) Shipping as guest of honour. Also attending were Per Holmvang, managing director of DNVPS, Henrik O. Madsen, CEO elect, and Tor E. Svensen, DNV Maritime COO.

“The growth of DNVPS has been no less than impressive, and mirrors the entire history of the bunker testing business, from its inception in the early 1980s to the fully fledged industry it is today. A market share of close to 70 per cent and a very sound financial performance proves that our customers value the service,” says CEO Miklos Konkoly Thege.

25 years and 1 000 000 bunkers tested
The very concept of bunker quality testing was in fact a DNV brainchild and DNV was the first to introduce a fuel testing programme to commercial vessels, back in 1981.

“DNV Petroleum Services is today a leading provider of marine fuel management services, accounting for the quality verification of almost 70 million tons of marine fuels supplied worldwide every year. In total, DNVPS has tested over 1 million bunker samples since its establishment in 1981, and the annual volume continues to climb steadily,” said Per Holmvang.

Total Fuel Management Solution
The silver jubilee was also used to launch a new service called Total Fuel Management Solution, which is a new, knowledge-based initiative that aims to provide customised solutions to all fuel-related issues facing ship operators.

“The complexity is growing, exemplified by escalating bunker prices and MARPOL Annex VI regulations. This shows that ship operators are facing many more competing, and sometimes interlinked, demands on the economic and environmental fronts. Therefore marine fuel management must evolve into a long-term, systematic and thorough function,” said Per Holvang.
