Forecasts indicate that the liquefied natural gas (LNG) market and the compressed natural gas market will double in the next ten years.

“My task will be to create opportunities for DNV in the energy market relating to LNG production facilities, receiving terminals and pipeline transport,” says Pål Jahre Nilsen. He is DNV’s newly appointed global gas manager.
The gap between energy supply and demand is expected to increase by another 50 per cent in the next 20 years. This increasing demand for energy and a corresponding need for action aimed at environmental issues and reducing greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions makes gas even more interesting as an alternative source of energy.
Another aspect is that enormous quantities of associated gas are flared into the atmosphere because there is no infrastructure to handle the gas or the infrastructure is not sufficiently developed.
“DNV already possesses huge qualifications relating to the construction of LNG and CNG vessels and is highly skilled in pipeline, compression-tank and concrete-installation technology,” says Pål Jahre Nilsen of DNV.
