On the first day of Nor-Shipping, DNV launched a new, onboard application created to meet the increasing demand for ship-to-shore reporting as well as effective and safe operation in and out of ports.

DNV has now received the first order for the new onboard application DNV Navigator from the Asian office of Tschudi & Eitzen Shipmanagement. They have ordered one Vessel and one Online version. The Vessel version will be installed onboard the vessel Samco Asia while the Online version will be used for information and training purpose in their Singapore office.
A tool as the DNV Navigator has become even more relevant in light of the forthcoming security requirements and demand for electronic port clearance, and the ever increasing amount of information that the bridge team has to know and keep updated to operate the ship.
In particular, the application’s database contains information about requirements related to navigation, security and ballast water and reporting to port authorities. It also contains checklists specific for each port and report forms required by port state authorities in 120 countries.
The new tool will also automatically fill in the port-clearance reports with data from the database, which includes ship-specific information on the owner, vessel, crew, certificates, stores, etc.
“By using electronic means and modern data communication we are able to reduce reporting time from hours to minutes,” says Captain Stein Taraldsen of IUM Shipmanagement, a pioneer in using DNV Navigator. “Port clearance goes much smoother now.”
“The information may also be made available through other onboard systems,” says Ove Sivertsen Strømsholm, CEO of DNV Maritime Partner.
DNV Maritime Partner is a company established through an acquisition this year and is fully owned by DNV. “We are not in the software business, but we are an information provider,” adds Sivertsen.
