DNV has created a global wind energy unit to concentrate expertise and better handle growing demand. The unit called DNV Global Wind Energy will have its head office at DNV’s premises in Roskilde, Denmark. The head office will open January 1, 2004.

Says General Manager of DNV Global Wind Energy Jan Behrendt Ibsø, “In order to meet our existing and new customers; wind turbine manufacturers, wind farm owners, insurance and investors in this market, we have decided to build up DNV Global Wind Energy with our head office located in the heart of the wind turbine research at Risø Research Centre at Roskilde, Denmark.”
DNV also has local offices dedicated to wind energy activities in Sweden, Norway, Germany, United Kingdom, the Netherlands, Spain, the U.S, India and Taiwan.
Says Ibsø. “The EWEA (European Wind Energy Association) has just recently increased its expectations to the European wind industry market alone for 2010 to cumulative 75,000 MW of which at least 10,000 MW will come from offshore wind farms. The corresponding numbers at the end of 2002 are approx. 30,000 MW of which 280 MW is offshore. This means that by 2010 more than 86 million Europeans will get their power from the wind.
The global wind industry market and in particular the emerging global offshore wind industry market fit perfectly in with the cross wind turbine, marine and offshore technology competences that DNV has.”
