The objective of the programme is to find new technological solutions that will lead to an improvement of corrosion protection.

We are looking for new corrosion protection concepts for shipbuilding and offshore industry.

We are also interested in monitoring, detection, assessment and management of corrosion in closed or difficult to inspect spaces like ballast water tanks, offshore installations, pipelines and ships that have an extended lifetime due to their high price like LNG tankers. The motivation is to extend the lifetime of those installations and to sustain the development of services in what is called "integrated operations”.

Using integrated operations, one observes the condition of an installation using active or passive sensors for the important parameters, collects the information of the sensors and analyzes the information. An automatic system can supervise the installation continously and verify that this installation does not operate outside the required specifications. If a sensor detects a problem, the relevant service personnel will be notified and the necessary measures will be initiated.

Integrated Operations make it possible to focus maintenance to the necessary areas and thereby reduce the cost for this service.
