DNV Research & Innovation serves the purpose of exploring and testing new technologies and building new knowledge within selected technology areas that are believed to be of particular significance for DNVs own development and business activities in the future. DNV Research & Innovation is currently focused on six major strategic research programmes.

Arctic

In recent years, Arctic issues have become increasingly “hot” as a result of new oil and gas development plans for the Arctic, particularly in Russia.

Managing the future supply of energy involves new and critical challenges and risks.

Healthcare

Healthcare is becoming increasingly complex making patient safety a growing concern worldwide. Every year between three and sixteen percent of patients admitted to hospital suffer one of more adverse events; of whom a significant number die while others suffer permanent disability. Approximately 40% of the events are considered to be preventable. The Healthcare research programme is committed to promoting patient safety in healthcare systems.
