Every year between three and sixteen percent of patients admitted to hospital suffer one of more adverse events; of whom a significant number die while others suffer permanent disability. Approximately 40% of the events are considered to be preventable. The Healthcare research programme is committed to promoting patient safety in healthcare systems.
