The UN Millennium Development Goal for Water is to “halve, by 2015, the proportion of people without sustainable access to safe drinking water”. DNV wants to be a part of this global agenda, which is why water is the focus of the partnership with the Red Cross.

A new three-year period of cooperation with the Red Cross has now been signed. A lot has been accomplished:
- Support to Red Cross water and sanitation projects in Yanbian Prefecture, Jilin Province, China.
- Water and sanitation project in Vietnam aimed to improve health and living conditions in the Phu Tho and Yen Bai provinces
- Support a new project training health and security in the favelas in Brazil.
- Competence exchange on Risk Management
- Competence exchange on Human Rights
- Volunteer work by DNV employees
How have we been able to accomplish this?
In addition to financial support, the partnership is based on the exchange of expertise. DNV employees have made valuable contributions to the projects by sharing their expertise.
New three-year agreement signed
DNV and the Norwegian Red Cross decided in April 2010 to continue the partnership for three new years. In the future, DNV wants to expand the partnership into new geographical and professional areas. The local cooperation in China is an example to be followed.
The Red Cross has branches in 183 countries, opening up a world of opportunities in which DNV enthusiasts can get involved.
