What are the qualifications applicants must have?
Answer: All applicants must have a Masters degree in a business related discipline with no more than two years work experience. We encourage candidates with strong academic results, international experience, and extracurricular activities to apply. Fluency in English (both verbal and written) is required.
What is the application process and deadline?
Answer: Each year, the recruitment for the Management Trainee Programme begins in September. Applicants should actively follow the DNV career web pages to see when recruitment has begun. Applicants are also encouraged to sign up for job alerts. Applications will only be considered if they have been registered and submitted on Webcruiter before the annual deadline of October 15th. Please do not send CVs by email as they will not be reviewed.
What is the selection process and timelines?
Answer: After the closing deadline, all applications are reviewed by an internal selection committee. Applicants chosen for further consideration will be invited to complete a series of online tests administered by an external agency, this typically occurs during the third or fourth week of October. The DNV selection committee will then review online test results and all other application materials. Interview invitations will be sent to those selected for final consideration, this typically happens during the first two weeks of November. Interviews generally take place in November, and offers are made at the end of November or beginning of December.
How many positions are available?
Answer: The number of Management Trainees hired depends on internal and external factors and varies from year to year. In some years we have hired as many as six, and in other years we have hired as few as two.
Do you plan on hiring Management Trainees this year?
Answer: The Management Trainee Programme is part of our corporate strategy and it is our intention to have an intake every year.
What is the structure of the Management Trainee Programme?
Answer: The Management Trainee Programme lasts for 24 months and consists of three 8-month job rotations. Prior to the start of the first rotation, Management Trainees will receive general training in an induction programme for all trainees in DNV. The three 8-month rotations take place at different levels in the organisation (e.g. corporate, regional and operational). Two of these rotations are held at DNV’s headquarters (Oslo, Norway), one of which must be the first rotation. One rotation will be held at a location outside of Norway.
How many applications do you receive?
Answer: The Management Trainee Programme has grown in reputation and popularity throughout the years. Over the past few years, the number of applications received has been in the range of 250 to 350.
What languages do I have to speak?
Answer: Fluency in English (both verbal and written), is required. Knowledge of other languages may be an asset, but is not a mandatory requirement.
What nationalities can apply?
Answer: In addition to Norway, DNV is now recruiting for the Management Trainee programme in the USA and China. The intention is that trainees from these countries will spend two rotations at DNV headquarters (Oslo, Norway) and one rotation in their home country, before taking on a permanent position in an operational unit or Shared Service Centre in their home country (most likely in Houston or Shanghai).
Do you get paid for this program?
Answer: The Management Trainee positions are paid and we offer competitive compensation packages to our trainees.
What happens after the program is completed?
Answer: When you are hired into DNV through the Management Trainee Programme, you are offered a permanent position. Of course you do not stay a trainee forever, and after successful completion of the trainee program you are offered a position within DNV. In the final rotation, you are expected to apply through the internal job market. However, you will receive continuous assistance and mentorship throughout the process of applying internally.
What are typical rotations for a Management Trainee and what position are we likely to get after completion of the program?
Answer: The goal for our Management Trainees covers a lot of ground – we want our trainees to build competence within areas of business control, general accounting, systems & processes and human resources management. Therefore, it is difficult to define “typical” trainee rotations and “typical” positions that trainees move onto after the programme. Each Management Trainee’s journey is unique. However, we do want trainees to develop in the areas mentioned above, so one rotation may be based on the intention to develop an area where a trainee has less background; while another rotation may be devoted to further developing an area where the trainee already has a strong background. Trainees receive continuous mentorship throughout the programme, from leaders all throughout the company, to help cultivate their interests and skills.
