DNV’s Hull Integrity Management (HIM) is an innovative web-based service designed to improve maintenance, streamline reporting, facilitate inspections and avoid downtime due to unanticipated repair work during renewal surveys for classification.

Following an intensive two-year development programme, DNV has launched HIM, a web-based service allowing owners and managers of offshore units to take a more active role in assessing their fleet’s hull condition and manage issues related to corrosion or defects before they pose a significant operational risk. The service is part of DNV’s broader effort to help customers reduce costs by developing verifiable integrity management systems.
According to Tore Sildnes, DNV’s Service Director (Offshore Classification), increased focus on costs has lead to rising demand for effective tools to avoid unplanned downtime. “Unanticipated repairs represent a serious business and operational risk for owners and managers of offshore units,” he says. “HIM has been specifically developed to provide users with a powerful tool to achieve an overview of the condition of their fleet, and to assess, monitor and plan for necessary maintenance and repairs of hull and mooring equipment.”
DNV’s HIM is a unique service allowing owners an easy to use platform to input data gathered during routine on-board inspections and providing them access to DNV surveyor data on DNV-classed units. “By sharing information on a common platform, owners and DNV have access to valuable, up-to-date information that helps eliminate unwelcome surprises at the yard,” he says. “This helps managers plan maintenance more effectively in support of their business objectives.”
