Ore+Carrier

The Leading Class Society for Ore Carriers.

Purpose

Ore Carriers are ships designed for carriage of ore cargoes in centre holds. The last years have seen a dramatic increase of the newbuilding orders for Very Large Ore Carriers (VLOC), mainly driven by the increasing demand for iron ore imports from Australia and Brazil to the steel mills in China.

DNV classification services focus on safety of the ship, cargo and crew, combined with efficient operations.

Our experience

DNV currently classifies close to half the world’s fleet of VLOC’s. This experience has provided unique insights to the demanding structural requirements on these giants of the sea. Owners also recognize that about 37% of the trading routes of these ships are in a harsh environment, an area of expertise where we are world-leading.
