What should I do to have my vessels certified?

The ISPS Certification is based upon a regime where the Flag State Administration is either doing the certification themselves or authorising Recognised Security Organisations (RSOs) to work on their behalf. Such authorisation may range from full authorisation (Ship Security Plan approval, all types of ISPS shipboard verification and issuance of International Ship Security Certificate (ISSC)) to part of these activities only. For some flags a case by case authorisation is required.

DNV is authorised for all major flags who have decided to authorise RSOs. Overview and details can be found in a Flag State authorisation table.

A flow diagram shows the various main activities by DNV and the Company from agreeing an ISPS contract until renewal of the ISSC after 5 years.

Order agreement should be done with your local DNV Company Service Manager (CSM). If such person is not known, the local DNV office should be contacted. See DNV worldwide directory.

SSP approval should preferably be done at the Company office and the local DNV office should be contacted.

Responsibility for all types of shipboard verifications is distributed to local DNV offices world wide and the office nearest to the relevant verification port location should be contacted.
