Statutory+services

DNV is authorised by more than 130 flag administrations to carry out statutory certification on their behalf. Our international network of approval centres and more than 300 survey stations in more than 100 countries are essential for our certification activities.

Trusted by Maritime Administrations to certify on their behalf

Most of the Maritime Administrations have delegated the certification of ships according to IMO Conventions and Codes, to DNV. In most cases we do this for DNV-classed vessels only, but sometimes also independently of the vessels’ class.

The degree of authorisation from the individual administration varies from full authorisation, where DNV is delegated the total certification process, to cases where the Maritime Administration is handling part of the process, such as the issuance of full term certificates.

Statutory certification has a life time perspective for each vessel, from initial certification in connection with delivery, through annual, intermediate and renewal surveys during the operational life of the vessel. Statutory surveys will normally also be required when changing flag or class.

DNV assures efficient and timely execution of statutory certification through a world wide net of experienced and qualified surveyors.

To ensure cost efficiency, DNV is prepared to co-operate with owners/managers to plan the surveys to harmonize with vessels’ operational schedules.
