Strength analysis and fatigue assessment are carried out to document the strength of structures with respect to the Ultimate Limit States and the Fatigue Limit States. Necessary reinforcements are proposed, and design optimization can be carried out.
Purpose
Structural design is concerned with achieving minimum life cycle costs within the limit of serviceability and safety requirements. Strength analyses covering assessment of fatigue, excessive yielding, buckling and fast fracture are carried out as a part of this assessment. The results are used for:
- Documentation of compliance with rules and regulations
- Design improvements
- Design optimisation
- Condition assessment
- Planning of inspection, maintenance and repairs
Evaluating the possibility of life time extension
Benefits
The main benefits for the customer are:
- Confidence in design and current vessel condition
- Improved basis for inspection, maintenance and repairs
- Reduced probability of accidents and pollution
Reduced long term costs for owner
Features
The strength assessment is carried out using advanced calculation of wave loads and response. We are using the latest developed software, enabling automatic transfer of inertia loads and hydrodynamic pressure to Finite Element models. These calculations can be used to document compliance with additional class notations such as CSA-2.
Our consultants posses world-leading expertise on engineering and technical aspects covering the life span of a ship, and combine the strengths of practical experience from shipbuilding and ship operations with extensive research and development in the technology challenges of the maritime industry.
