We run any analysis requested for Accidental Oil Outflow Performance (“the Oil Spill Index”) for both cargo tanks and fuel tanks. In addition we can give professional advice on how to improve the vessel design in order to satisfy the requirements given in MARPOL regarding this issue.

Purpose

  • Design evalulation and improvement advice

  • Training and/or seminars

  • Production of documentation for approval

Benefits

Our experts have wide experience from many ship types in how to satisfy the rules. We can therefore give quick and good advice on how to arrange the fuel tanks to achieve the best possible result and share our experience and knowledge in terms of how to understand the regulations and calculations.

Features

In our reports we focus on the contribution from all involved tanks and narrow down what parameters that influence the result. This is crucial when attempting to improve the design performance. We are able to perform special calculation to take the aft and forward parts of the cargo area into consideration when the Oil Outflow Parameter is close to the allowed limit, thereby checking if there is an opportunity to save expensive re-design of cargo holds to satisfy the regulation.

Process

For the analysis we use the software NAPA in which we make a 3D model of the hull shape and oil tanks. If you already have a NAPA model, we may use that directly and thereby save working time.

Our Experience

On behalf of DNV, our section has developed tools to analyze all types of designs with respect to the MARPOL Annex I Regulations 12A, 19 and 23. We have conducted training courses for designers and participated as lecturers in seminars.
