Prediction of local vibration levels

Purpose

To analyse the vibration behaviour of local structures, such as girders, stiffeners and plates between local stiffeners combined with an evaluation of excitation sources on ships to avoid excessive local vibrations affecting comfort, safety and operability.

Benefits

DNV has leading-edge competence and tools to analyse the vibration behaviour of ship structures. Based on our extensive experience, we will propose possible modification to the design in order to avoid the risk of excessive local vibration, which affects comfort, safety and operability of the vessel.

Features

The analyses are made based on an analytical approach to calculate the natural frequencies of girders, stiffeners and plates. Where required, a Finite Element Model of the local structure is prepared. The analyses are based on the following information: A list of all relevant excitation sources - Steel drawings of the structure. The results are documented in a report covering: A review of all relevant excitation sources - Calculated natural frequencies of the selected structure - A proposal for possible modification in order to avoid the risk of excessive vibration.
