DNV is at the forefront of current and future challenges in maritime technology, providing consulting services helping our clients unlock their full potential.

Technical solutions impacting the future

Our consultants are carefully chosen by their professional competence, customer focus, commitment and commercial background. In addition, we draw upon the full extent of specialist expertise from DNV worldwide.

Handling multi-discipline technical challenges by understanding the maritime industry, attending to details yet retaining the full perspective, is our pre-requisite.

Our projects are tailored to the clients’ needs, covering:

Conceptual studies
Whether you have an idea for a new vessel, engineered an innovative floating object or need advice on how to meet new market demands with a competitive design, we will assist you. From drafting sketches, performing systematic feasibility studies to facilitating workshops, we help create solutions and evaluate ideas’ “fit for purpose” or economic viability.

Specification services
Maritime Solutions develop or review draught newbuilding or conversion specifications, outline general arrangement plans and conceptual designs for quality, usability, operational safety, cost and consistency to the contract. We also give advice on contractual terms and newbuilding project management.

Conversion feasibility studies
Maritime Solutions perform technical feasibility studies of conversion or refurbishment projects, identifying critical issues and providing the client with a basis for further engineering. We also carry out project risk assessments in order to minimize off-hire and unexpected delays at the yard.

Vessel and fleet assessments
Maritime Solutions carry out condition surveys and technical due-diligence assessments of ships and fleets. Covering hull, machinery, equipment and accommodation, we have systematic formats in order to ensure efficient execution and reporting.

Incident investigations
Accidents and incidents are a combination of human error, lack of safety barriers and technical failure. By established risk assessment methods, Maritime Solutions map events, investigate root causes and suggest measures in order to avoid similar events in the future.

Shipyard assessments
The current demand for more shipbuilding capacity sees a growth in new fields and the development of existing yards. DNV actively participate in this market, having long standing insight in most shipyards through our local offices world wide. Maritime Solutions assist ship-owners and financiers in benchmarking and rating a yard’s capability; and shipyards in improving their production. Our assessments systematically rate a yard’s organization and performance, identify issues and suggest recommendations in order to improve. DNV monitor a shipyard’s development by regular follow-up.

Newbuilding and refurbishment fire safety
Entering your vessel into a shipyard, fire is still the biggest risk. Maritime Solutions utilize a rating tool to assess this risk and to suggest measures to control fire safety both pertaining to the vessel and the yard. The assessment is based on DNV’s Guidelines for Yard Fire Safety.

Total transport solutions
Total transport solutions consider the total transport chain logistics including inter-modal systems, port facilities, ship-shore interaction and environmental conditions.
