Role-specific Competence Standards enable the competence of individuals to be assessed through theoretical tests and practical assignments

Assessed individuals receive an assessment report indicating strong and weaker competence areas. Certificates are issued to individuals who pass certification examinations with satisfactory results.

The following competence standards for certification have been developed in cooperation with the industry and outline competence requirements for given positions.

  • No. 3.301 Competence of Ships' Superintendents is intended for individuals ashore, who can be made responsible for providing support to the ship and to facilitate safe and efficient operation of the ship.
  • No. 3.302 Competence of Shipboard LNG Cargo Operators is intended for senior officers who shall be able to carry out all tasks related to cargo handling on board LNG carriers.
  • No. 3.304 Competence of Ships' Electrical Officers and Engineers is intended for individuals who shall be able to serve as a competent ships' electrician engineer on any type of ship.

  • No. 3.305 Competence of Shore-Side Personnel handling Dangerous Goods is intended for shore-side personnel who are supporting vessels transporting dangerous goods at sea.

  • No. 3.303 STCW Basic Safety for Seafarers brings together STCW requirements pertaining to basic safety and further breaks them down into competence requirements.
