Institutions with certified simulator systems have simulators which enable realistic high quality training conforming with regulatory and industry requirements

STCW (Standards of Training, Certification and Watchkeeping) Convention requires that simulators, when used for mandatory simulator-based training and/or when used as a mean to demonstrate competence (assessment), shall be approved by the relevant maritime administration.
DNV SeaSkill™ has, together with the training industry and administration, developed the Standard for Certification No. 2.14 Maritime Simulator Systems.
The purpose of the standard is to ensure that the simulations provided by the simulator reach an appropriate level of physical and behavioural realism to meet recognised training and assessment objectives.
When in compliance with the Standard for Certification No. 2.14 Maritime Simulator Systems, manufacturers receive a Statement of Compliance after Design assessment and Performance testing of the simulator and Simulator Centres receive a product certificate.
Target groups for certification of maritime simulator systems:
- Simulator centres, using a simulator for examination.
- Simulator centres, using a simulator for mandatory simulator training.
- Simulator centres, in the process of buying/installing a new simulator, which is to be used for examination or mandatory simulator training.
- Manufacturers offering a simulator for examination or mandatory simulator training, and who would like to document the usefulness of the simulator to the buyer.
