DNV offer certification of personnel lifts/ elevators. The certification is based on DNV’s Rules for Certification of Ships, Mobile Offshore Unit’s and Offshore Installations and is generally accepted by flag authority’s world-wide. Several hundred ships and offshore installations have lifts certified by DNV.

DNV has developed own rules based upon a norm established by Common European Standard EN 81. Besides, international standards are known to DNV’s organisation. As result of DNV’s representation worldwide, owners may obtain assistance and have their lift certifications maintained continually.

A number of flag authorities have included lifts in their legislation, some by own developed rules, some by reference to the rules of the classification societies, and some by reference to internationally accepted standards. Owners or yards apply to DNV for assistance in order to provide third party evaluation and to issue certificate for lifts in accordance with flag authority requirements.

DNV’s general scope for issuance of lift certificate is:

• Design assessment (design approval).
• Manufacturing survey.
• Final installation survey and testing.

In addition DNV offer following services:

• Design assessment in connection with modifications.
• Design assessment for issuance of Type Approval Certificate.
• Participation in trouble-shooting tasks.
• Carry out compliance review for upgrading/new legislation.
