Section for Control Systems is responsible for the following class notations:

  • E0 - Periodically Unattended Machinery Spaces
Periodically unattended machinery spaces implies that the vessel is equipped with instrumentation and automation equipment and systems enabling periodically unattended machinery spaces in all sailing conditions, including manoeuvring, as well as alongside quay.

  • ECO - Engine Room Centralized Operation
This class notation denotes that the vessel is equipped with instrumentation and automation equipment and systems enabling machinery to be operated from a continuously manned centralized control station.

  • RP - Redundant Propulsion
This class notation is applicable for vessels where the propulsion machinery, the steering gear and their auxiliary systems are built to give a fully redundant propulsion system and steering system. Class notation RPS includes in addition failures, which are caused by fire and flooding incidents, before the vessel has lost steering speed.

  • EP - Emergency Propulsion
The class notation denotes that additional measures are provided to enhance the safety of the ship with respect to grounding risk and the probability of reaching safe harbour of refuge after a single failure in the main propulsion system and its auxiliaries.

  • DYNPOS - Dynamic Positioning. The DNV dynamic positioning service are represented by the additional DYNPOS class notations AUTS, AUT, AUTR and AUTRO.

    • DYNPOS-AUTS
A dynamic positioning system without redundancy

    • DYNPOS-AUT

A dynamic positioning system with an independent joystick backup and a positioning reference backup. Equivalent to IMO equipment class 1.

    • DYNPOS-AUTR

A dynamic positioning system with redundancy in technical design and with an independent joystick backup. Equivalent to IMO equipment class 2.

    • DYNPOS-AUTRO
A dynamic positioning system with redundancy in technical design and with an independent joystick backup. In addition, a backup DP-control system is installed in an emergency DP-control center, designed with physical separation for components that provide redundancy. Equivalent to IMO equipment class 3.
