Purpose

This ship type class notation supports the statutory certificates for passenger ships and addresses the specific requirements as to such vessels that are relevant to the scope of class.

Benefits

DNV has a large share of the market for the classification of passenger ships and has extensive experience in handling complex statutory matters for flag states, including "equivalent" design considerations.

A ship specific Classification Note (CN) provides guidance for the strength analysis of large passenger ships and cruise ships. Our large numbers of delegations from flag states simplify the approval and survey of passenger ships.

Features

This Passenger Ship class notation covers ship type specific approval of the hull, strength, stability, piping systems, electrical installations, instrumentation and automation, safety and fire safety as outlined in relevant parts of the DNV rules.

The Passenger Ship class notation is assigned following survey reports verifying compliance with the rules. Approval is carried out at DNV's approval centre in Oslo. The site survey is carried out at the building yard and its suppliers. The periodical survey is carried out on board the vessel.

Process

Approval is based on design drawings produced by a yard or a designer acting on behalf of a yard.
