Class notation for vessels intended for carrying dry cargoes in bulk.
To verify compliance with the requirements applicable to vessels intended for carrying dry cargoes in bulk when the ship-type notation does not indicate such requirements. This class notation is intended for the bulk carrier segment that is not subject to the requirements of IACS URS25 “Standard Loading Conditions and Harmonized Class Notations” as well as other dry cargo vessels, such as typical open hatch vessels.
The loading flexibility granted to vessels with this notation depends solely on the information provided in the vessel’s loading manual. No minimum strength conditions are included as for the BC-A or HC-A notations.
This class notation implies that the vessel is designed to carry dry cargoes in bulk, and the notation will be assigned following an approval and verification survey.
The newbuilding plan approval and site survey are carried out in accordance with the relevant parts of the DNV rules. Approval is carried out at the responsible approval centre. The site survey is carried out at the building yard and its suppliers' premises.
