China in focus
China has joined the league of large container ship builders. Mr Ren Yuanlin of Yangzijiang Shipbuilding highlights the reasons for the country’s success in an interview with DNV’s James Huang in this issue of Container Ship Update.
20% market share for DNV in 2011
DNV has won a 20% market share of the newbuild orders placed for container ships so far in 2011 based on the number of ships. The market share is 19% based on TEU.

Yangzijiang Shipbuilding is another legend in China’s shipbuilding industry. As the first private shipbuilding enterprise to be listed in Singapore in 2007, Yangzijiang Shipbuilding has quickly ascended to become one of the world’s top 20 shipbuilders and China’s top five shipbuilders. Moreover, it has been included in China’s Top 500 Companies list for three consecutive years and ranks higher each year.

Guidelines on fuel saving measures for container ships
DNV and HSVA are jointly publishing the new “Guidelines on fuel saving measures for container ships”. These have been developed by the two organisations to help designers and operators find the best alternatives for fuel optimisation in various operating conditions. This follows up the success of the “Guidelines on fuel saving measures for bulk carriers”, which were issued in the summer 2011.
