Fortum Shipping has taken delivery of the first of two double hull product carriers from the Portuguese shipyard Estaleiros Navais Viana do Castelo S.A.

The first vessel is named Kiisla and her sister Suula will be delivered in 2005. Kiisla has been designed for the carriage of IMO class II chemicals and oil products. Her cargo capacity is 16,082 cbm (100 per cent) distributed over seven pairs of fully epoxy coated tanks. The pair of tanks furthest aft are smaller than the others and may be used as slop tanks.
The electric driven, variable speed deep well pumps from KSE Svanehoj have a capacity of 350 cbm/h in the large tanks and 150 cbm/h in slop tanks. Each cargo tank and slop tank has two Scanjet tank washing machines. Four tanks can be washed simultaneously. A nitrogen system is provided for cargo stripping, purging of cargo piping and for creating a nitrogen layer on top of cargo.
All cargo tanks are heated by double loop heating coils. Steam is used for primary heating and the secondary heating medium is a mixture of water and glycol. A full cargo of HFO may be heated from 44 degrees C to 66 degrees in 96 hours. Max cargo maintaining temperature is 80 degrees C.
The bridge is of Fortum Shipping's standardised design with two identical conning places with ECDIS, radars and integrated bridge control system.
A Waertsilae medium speed diesel engine provides a service speed of 14 knots with a consumption of 24 t HFO a day. At sea trials a max speed of 16.5 knots was reached at design draught. The bow thruster has an output of 800 kW.
