DNV SeaSkill Singapore has achieved a breakthrough by signing a contract with NYK Shipmanagement for certification of their Competence Management System.

The initial contract is for certification of the competence management system for operation of VLCCs from NYK Singapore. It is expected that this will lead to certification of other NYK fleets, including their training facilities and key personnel. Amit Ray, Head of DNV SeaSkill, Asia has been instrumental in obtaining the contract and shall be responsible for the delivery.

Sverre Alvik, head of Maritime Solutions, Asia Pacific has simultaneously received a contract for a training course in risk management and a risk assessment project related to the development of NYK's competence management system.

The deal was formally approved by the NYK Board in Japan, and shows the importance of the contract both for NYK and DNV.

"This contract represents a major step in our efforts to diversify around the world," says Bjorgulf Haukelid, head of DNV SeaSkill. "It also shows that Maritime Solutions is capable of finding new customers with value added services that do not form part of the traditional DNV areas of strength."
