The latest South America Committee meeting took place in November in Rio de Janeiro, with DNV's chief executive officer Miklos Konkoly-Thege opening the proceedings

In his address the DNV CEO focused on the latest worldwide developments, while highlighting DNV fleet growth which culminated in the milestone 100Mgrt mark and a 23 percent market share on newbuilding contracts.

Other items highlighted in Konkoly-Thege's address included DNV Technology Services' growth in new geographies and the latest developments in the Brazilian market, where DNV has a strong position in the newbuilding contracts for both the marine and the oil & gas markets.

The Committee, which consists of representatives from the world's leading shipowners, equipment manufacturers, oil majors and shipyards, also heard DNV's class policy and quality head Terje Staalstrom address the issue of the ISPS Code and other maritime security-related issues. He highlighted the major aspects of the Code and its implications to the different stakeholders in the marine industry.

In continuation, DNV's regional manager in Brazil, Jose Pontes, presented some examples of how DNV, through its strong technological know-how and risk-based solutions, is able to support companies in controlling their project risks throughout the entire life cycle.

Concluding the proceedings, Correa do Lago, planning director of Lorentzen Empreendimentos, gave the Committee members a valuable outlook of the Brazilian situation, both from an economic and political point of view, and Committee members advised DNV on how it could improve local services and business in Brazil.
