UK-based Port Maritime Security International (PMSi) has become the first company to receive certification for its Port Facility Security Officers (PFSO) course, which fully complies with the requirements set out in the ISPS Code.
"To have gained DNV certification is a real tribute to the training team, but to have achieved a world-first clearly demonstrates the strength and quality of the specialist staff within the team. We are all extremely proud of this achievement," said a clearly delighted Peter Southwood, PMSi's technical director.PMSi, a subsidiary of Eurotunnel plc offering global security solutions to the maritime and logistics industries, has included the PFSO course within its training portfolio and will be delivering courses at its training centres around the world. These are in addition to its dedicated courses at the customers' premises.
PMSi has placed its whole suite of security officer courses for certification with DNV and by the end of April 2004 seventeen courses had been certified, all in accordance with the requirements of the DNV Standard for Certification of Learning Programmes. Another eleven courses are currently under review. Most of the certified courses are related to the ISPS Code, but an ice navigator-training course has also been certified.
DNV SeaSkill is working with the objective of improving competence within the maritime industry. The unit is engaged in certification of competence management systems, training certification and personnel certification.
