The Norwegian Cruise Line (NCL) has placed a newbuild order in Germany for a new cruise vessel dedicated for inter-island Hawaii cruise service. The order is part of the company’s largest development of the Haiwaii deployment ever. The new vessels is the first new ocean-going passenger ship to sail under the American flag in nearly 50 years.

The vessel, yet to be named and known internally as PA1, will begin service in Hawaii in July 2004. It is being built at the Lloyd Werft in Bremerhaven, Germany with dual class from DNV and ABS. The main dimensions are: length over all 257,9 m, breadth 32,2 m, about 81.000 grt., max. power output 50.400 kW.
