Ship classification is a life-cycle involvement in collecting, analysing and disseminating information. The expectations from the shipping industry of class being a reliable provider of vital information is, and has always been, high.

The DNV Nauticus Product Model (NPM) represents a milestone in our efforts to promote the transfer of knowledge to shipping. By making use of advanced IT solutions DNV is now providing easily accessible information about the classed fleet to all customers. Typical information available is survey reports, documents of class status snapshots at periodic intervals, and extended lists of particulars and parameters for vessel and components. The 3D Graphic Model is further developed as an information carrier with drastic improved availability and usability.
The technology now available from DNV includes a specific knowledge base for a vessel where all class-related information is stored and made accessible to external customers. The upgraded version makes available special statistics, which makes benchmarking against the whole DNV classed fleet possible.
We are convinced that the NPM represents a valuable step towards increased transparency and thereby safer and more efficient operation of ships in the future.
