Utilising+knowledge+in+a+proactive+way

The nature of DNV work is to judge what our clients create, giving us a unique understanding of what happens within the maritime world. The information we get from each individual client is carefully protected to enable us to carry out our work as an independent and trusted partner.

Nevertheless, we have the obligation to utilise our knowledge in a proactive way to safeguard life, property and the environment. We have to foresee future developments, provide adequate safety rules for future designs and assess future threats before we have safety records.

In 2001 DNV initiated and facilitated the Cruise Ship Safety Forum of major cruise ship operators and yards. The review of the large passenger ship confirmed safety levels above present IMO regulations. This proved that we are on the right course and should continue the way we are heading, i.e. to comply with IMO regulations and set additional voluntary standards in co-operation with the clients to achieve the highest safety.

In this way, both DNV and our clients are utilising knowledge in a proactive way.
