About 10,000 customers attended DNV courses worldwide in 2000, 4,000 of them from the maritime industry.

Through a network of maritime service centres various course packages, focusing on quality management and technical services, are available to customers. A DNV learning network is being prepared for introduction shortly. The move towards internet-based training will develop new pedagogic approaches, as well as new marketplaces for training.
South Korea
From autumn 2001 three training centres will be operating, from Pusan, Ulsan and Koje. DNVs initial aim is to offer courses that are prepared specifically to meet the needs of our clients (yards, owners and manufacturers). This will be combined with experience gained from several years of operation at DNVs Learning Centre in Oslo, Norway.
From the portfolio of courses, training can be built up for different categories of people dependent on the following needs:
1. General knowledge applicable for all categories
2. Graduate (freshman): subjects related to machinery, hull and electrical plant
3. Engineers with at least one year of experience
4. Specialists in areas such as hull, machinery, electrical, statutory and software tools.
In addition, tailor made courses are undertaken for shipowners`site teams at Korean yards, including:
" Hull structure
" ISM Code
" STCW
" Electrical/electronic
" SOLAS Amendments.
Cooperation project between Daewoo and DNV
Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering Co.Ltd. and DNV have agreed upon a two-year product development contract for a number of cooperative tasks, such as:
" Hull structures fatigue
" Design guideline for sloshing
" Information exchange between class and yard.
Training and exchange of engineers between Daewoo and DNV started in September 2000 and is expected to run until August 2002. At present Daewoo engineers are engaged in fatigue-related subjects in Norway, while DNV surveyors carry out training at the Daewoo yard in South Korea. The project is expected to contribute to product development for DNV, and improve design technology in Daewoo.
