Vebjørn Guttormsen took over as business director for container ships in September 2009. He has been with DNV since 1998, holding various positions in DNV Energy, DNV Maritime and DNV Software. He has an MSc in Naval Architecture from the Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU) in Trondheim.

Now that he has reached the age of 65, Knut Døhlie has taken up a position as assistant to DNV’s marketing & sales director after more than 32 years in DNV.

“We’re committed to further lifting and strengthening DNV’s position in the global container ship market,” says Vebjørn Guttormsen. “The downturn in the market has presented us with new challenges to be dealt with relating to cost control and operational efficiency. The future provides opportunities to resolve the environmental issues and incorporate these solutions into tomorrow’s ship designs.”

“I would like to say thank you to all my business friends in the industry. We’ve been through exciting times with dramatic changes, an enormous market expansion, ever bigger ships and new challenges in the downturn,” says Knut Døhlie.

“The biggest task has been to establish DNV as a viable contender in the container ship market. That’s an ongoing job. We will continue to put the client in focus whilst working to achieve cost-efficient and reliable container shipping. Pro-active risk management has been a key focal point, and will continue to be so in the years ahead. Discovering potential problems early (rather than late) gives scope for better control and budgeting.

“Hopefully, you will see my name in future issues of Container Ship Update. I also hope to meet you in person in the years to come,” says Knut Døhlie.
